Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds get the full caricature treatment in this 1982 illustration by Chuck Slack, created around the release of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. The film paired two of the era’s most recognizable stars in a big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, with Parton playing Miss Mona and Reynolds as Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd.
Released in the summer of 1982, the musical comedy also featured Dom DeLuise, Charles Durning and Jim Nabors. Parton received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance, while Durning earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The exaggerated faces, cowboy imagery and Corvette-like sports car give Slack’s illustration the kind of playful celebrity caricature style closely associated with magazine art of the period.
